Lactation counseling can help address a wide range of conditions and issues related to breastfeeding, including:
Latch Difficulties: We help parents and babies achieve a comfortable and effective latch to ensure adequate milk transfer and prevent nipple pain or damage.
Low Milk Supply: We provide guidance and support to increase milk production through techniques such as frequent feeding, proper breast stimulation, and adequate hydration and nutrition.
Engorgement: We offer strategies to relieve discomfort and facilitate milk removal in cases of breast engorgement, which occurs when the breasts become overly full and swollen with milk.
Nipple Pain or Trauma: We assist with the identification and resolution of factors contributing to nipple pain or trauma, such as improper latch, tongue tie, or positioning issues.
Infant Weight Gain Concerns: We evaluate feeding patterns, diaper output, and infant weight gain to ensure that babies are receiving adequate nutrition and growing appropriately.
Breastfeeding Positions and Techniques: We teach parents various breastfeeding positions and techniques to optimize comfort, milk flow, and milk transfer during feeding sessions.
Breastfeeding after Medical Procedures: We support parents in breastfeeding after medical procedures such as cesarean section, mastectomy, or breast surgery.
Milk Expression and Storage: We provide guidance on techniques for expressing breast milk manually or with a pump, as well as proper storage and handling of expressed milk.
Breastfeeding Support for Special Circumstances: We offer specialized support for breastfeeding parents with multiples (twins, triplets), preterm infants, infants with special needs, or parents returning to work or school.
Weaning: We provide support and guidance for parents navigating the process of weaning from breastfeeding, whether gradual or abrupt.
