Orofacial Myology therapy is especially good for children with tongue thrust which may cause a lisp and teeth misalignment. Orofacial Myology is often a therapy used in conjunction with Orthodontists (as a way to ensure correct placement of the tongue while speaking, swallowing, and at rest so braces are not needed a second time and teeth stay in place). Orofacial Myology is also known as: oral myofunctional therapy, myofunctional therapy, and orofacial myofunctional therapy.

The tongue is one of the strongest muscles in the body. Let it work with you and NOT against your teeth!

Improper resting position of the tongue. Orofacial Myologists can correct the resting position and look of the entire face after therapy.

Therapy may not start until other barriers are taken care of. For example, a tongue tie can restrict the tongue’s ability to move to the right spot in order to have correct resting position and/or swallowing pattern.

Tongue thrust is when the tongue pushes forward to the teeth when swallowing.
